About the artist

The artist with his painting entries to the Philippine Quincentennial Art Competition 2020. “Handog” (bottom left) was used by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines’ historical and cultural exhibit titled “Paghangop: The Filipino and the Santo Niño” at the Basilica.

Born in 1964 in Pagsanjan, Laguna, Abelardo Maceda had several interests before finally setting down and focusing on painting as late but passion-vocation.

His current works are a mix of paintings depicting the beauty of nature, vignettes of people we meet in our daily commute, and portraits with a colorful twist.

He is a born artist. When computer graphic software and tarpaulins have not yet been popular, he has already been painting for family members’ and friends’ milestone event banners, doing t-shirt graphic design, and carving wooden moulds for paper mache crafts for his wife’s novelty export business.

Abe is currently based in Antipolo, Philippines.

When not painting, he loves fishing, singing and playing with his guitar, and walking their family dogs.

You may check out his artist’s journey here.

He is open to art commissions and collaborations.
